  • I live in the UK and we are asking people to boycott Israeli goods.

There has been official support which is being taken to our trade union congress for backing and in turn to government.
The feelers have been out for a while and it is believd that we can do this.
I have formed a facebook group to get the mesage out there even further.
With your 1st hand knowledge I would appreciate your regular input as to the real devestation that is taking place.
Please believe that here we are doing what we can.

May God keep you , your family and friends safe,
peace and love from your sister in the UK!!

  • Perhaps you might find a way to connect with Cynthia McKinney (former US Congresswoman from Georgia) who is part of the End Gaza Siege group. Perhaps a connection to Cynthia McKinney might open a door in Washington... I think that a physician like yourself might be able to make inroads to get an audience with president elect Obama and present your findings directly to him. The key to helping Gaza and Palestine is to shift US attitudes towards the conflict by trying to deal with as many of the top people as possible. The top man will be Obama in a few weeks. This is how the zionist neocons have taken over Washington politics--they have ingratiated themselves at every level of leadership from the House leader to the Senate leadership. Through personal friendships and connections and being able to meet legislators in their offices they have embedded themselves into the politics of the US. Perhaps a growing coalition of grassroots activists like yourself can reach "the one" and present the truth. I suppose it is naive and unrealistic, but it is only through a coalition of individuals and groups can this ship turn coarse. The ropes that the tugboats use to tow ocean vessels are made up of individual threads...

  • Some news that I'm sure you won't see or hear on your local media, an account of the true nature of your Hamas and Fatah leaders:

    Palestinian Victims

The terrorizing of Arabs by Arabs is a big ho-hum for the Media and ignored by the progressive activists in the anti-Israel crowd.

Here's the story as reported in the Jerusalem Post a few days ago on Jan 4, 2009

    Hamas Moves on Fatah 'Collaborators'
    By KHALED ABU TOAMEH
The Hamas government has placed dozens of Fatah members under house arrest out of fear that they might exploit the current IDF operation to regain control of the Gaza Strip.

The move came amid reports that the Fatah leadership in the West Bank has instructed its followers to be ready to assume power over the Gaza Strip when and if Israel's military operation results in the removal of Hamas rule.

Fatah officials in Ramallah told The Jerusalem Post that Hamas militiamen had been assaulting many Fatah activists since the beginning of the operation last Saturday. They said at least 75 activists were shot in the legs while others had their hands broken. Wisam Abu Jalhoum, a Fatah activist from the Jabalya refugee camp, was shot in the legs by Hamas militiamen for allegedly expressing joy over the IDF air strikes on Hamas targets.

"Hamas is very nervous, because they feel that their end is nearing," a senior Fatah official said. "They have been waging a brutal campaign against Fatah members in the Gaza Strip."

Meanwhile, sources close to Hamas revealed over the weekend that the movement had "executed" more than 35 Palestinians who were suspected of collaborating with Israel.

  • I understand your pain.
This is the worst thing can happen to someone,I hope that it will end soon.
BUT!! you cannot be apathetic to Israel's reason of attack.
Eight year under attack of Hamas' missiles.
EIGHT YEARS! And no response from Israel's side. And this is after getting all of military and israeli civilians out of Gaza.
An appropriate respond should have come a long time ago.
Any reasonable state would have done the same.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT THOSE 4 CHILDREN TO BECOME (SUICIDE BOMBERS OF COURSE) don’t blame them then blame Israel…..
STOP THIS MASSACRE, STOP THE SLAUTHERING OF INOCENNT KIDS, STOP ISRAEL STOP ISRAEL STOP ISRAEL
Why the entire world is turning a blind eye…
Where is everyone, how could Israel get away with this massacre, this is a crime against humanity, against innocent civilians…IT IS NOT A WAR! A WAR IS NORMALLY BETWEEN TWO STRONG NATIONS, while what’s happening in GAZA right now is a holocaust, and a crime against a population who Israel wants to control and invade by force…

As a response to the continuous suffering of the Palestinian people, I am initiating a project titled Compass to Palestine.

Monument, art installation, expression, contribution- these are just some of the words that I can use to describe it.

    Compass To Palestine

    We honor our dead
Our dead are not numbers, they had stories.
Put a face to every number
Tell a story for every number
All photos and stories will be mounted on a compass
The arrow of the compass leads to Palestine
This compass will be designed and sculpted by volunteering artists and designers
The compass will be built on a piece of land in Jordan
The compass will be a living commemoration of the heroic sacrifices of the people of GAZA on the path to Palestine
The compass will be a living commemoration of the hope of freedom for people under occupation
Preserve the dignified memory of our dead

  • Mona,While I sympathize with your situation I respectfully wish to point out facts that brought Gaza society to where it is today. In 1988 the Hamas Covenant declared WAR on the Jewish State of Israel for the purpose of annihilating the Jewish state and in it's place create an Islamic state by killing as many men, women and children as it takes in order to demoralize the Jewish population. To that end Hamas launched suicide bombers, over 6,000 rocket attacks in 2 years etc.specifically targeting Jewish civilians. The Hamas Covenant erroneously states that Hamas has a right initiate this WAR and kill Jews because the Jewish State is situated on Arab not Jewish land.In spite of this Hamas was elected by an overwhelming Palestinian vote. This war will end and a long term peace will come to Gaza society once Hamas publicly declares that the Jewish State always has and continues to be situated on Jewish not Arab land.Hamas replaces the 1988 Hamas WAR Covenant with one that declares the benefits to Palestinian society in living in peace with the Jews of Israel. If the German people who supported Nazi terror which incidentally was also supported by the Grand Mufti and his Arab allies)were able to change,I look with hope that Palestinian society will also change.Until that happens Israel must continue to try to end this war initiated by Hamas by ending the Hamas regime's control over Gaza so that it can be administered by third party people and organizations who truly want to live at peace with the Jews of Israel and educating Palestinian society as to how the benefits of a long lasting real peace can improve their lives and the lives of their children.

  • I am an Israeli woman and am also horrified to hear what is happening to the civilian population in Gaza. I hope and pray that an end will come immediately that will allow civilians on both sides to feel safe. There is a question in my mind which doesn't leave me alone. We hear that Gaza is full of underground tunnels and bunkers and I find it hard to understand why these are not being made available to the civilian population for their safety. If they could use them, women and children at least could stay there, and with good food and water stores, for lengthy periods. Why are you not pressuring your leaders to provided better civilian protection when it is available?

  • May Allah help and protect you my beloved brother! You are brave and honest may Allah give strength and will
this is a time to unite Arab countries on the basis of one emotion global peace assalam and a true Muslim cant tell lie in the name of Allah ( the absolute peace)he must feel responsibility when he say assalam to his brother country
before world war 1st the Arab land was one piece now the time came near to wake up and become one sentiment of global peace and its true wisdom which can reward us Allah's ne-ma ("an-amta alaihim") in this world and jannah the place of peace in the life here after
so who ever accepts global peace now he will prove himself a Muslim and who ever gets wisdom of global peace he will prove to God that he is true mo'min and who ever strive for peace he will prove himself responsible muttaqi and who ever succeed to get in the struggle he will be mohsin and one who convince the world that Islam is global peace and quran its true wisdom he will be muqarrab and khaleefa in front of Allah on the day of peace youmiddeen
oh my brothers and sisters and mothers don’t give up hope of peace if we fails to get global peace in this world insha Allah---Allah will bring the total peace as a day of youmiddeen
Life is both side of death
And there are many parallel worlds by which we have to pass and our destination is Allah himself (the total and eternal peace)

  • dear mona my name is mai and I want you to now know that there are many millions of people all over the world who are demonstrating at the murderous actions of the israelies and are trying to bring pressure on their governments to stop this slaughter but I feel that sadly as long as the American administration keeps up it's support of Isreal because of the jewish money that controls Capital Hill that the justice the good people of Palastine have been waiting for is far away. The media here in the U.K is being controlled the western reporters are under isrealie military sanction so are unable to make a free report of the horror you are all enduring Al jazeere and Media Post are getting the message out as clear as possible even though the building that houses them were hit by the isrealies. An isrealie jugde had orderd the govenment to let western jounalists in but Olmert has refused The Red Cross and the UN humanitarian sections have accused Isreal of war crimes and are demanding an independant investigation. Hamas is being blamed for everything as usual the lies are being peddled and Isreal keeps insisting that they are the victims but many many millions of people all over the world know that this is a lie. Ships have left Cyprus and air lift from Morrocco are bringing to you medical supplies and aid god willing that you all get this my heart is broken at your plight and I am crying as I type this and I will be lighting a candle for you and all the people of Gaza. I wish I has it in my power to help you all to stop your suffering. My heart goes out to you all I will pray for you all keep safe or at least as safe as you can and may a ceasefire come soon. God bless you mai.

  • As usual, these pictures and the faces of dead children will go away in the media, then it will go away to the history books.

And be forgotten forever by the people who are not inside the hell that Isreal has made for Gaza.
We have a day to mourn the people that died in the Nazi camps. But if they know suffering, how come they inflict it on others?

Isreal will never be punished unless the elect Obama reacts, because Europe is whorthless union of passivty and loyalty towards the Isreali goverment. But Obama choosing sons of militant pro zionist people in his goverment only show that it will get worse before it gets better.

  • expected hypocracy from the muslim world .Where were the muslims when

    - over 1000 isrealis killed by the EVIL hamas

    -150 were children

    -Evil hamas targetting indiscrimately

    - only due to care and respect for human life and protecting its civilians the israelis have kept casualties low

    - unlike hamas who fight like cowards hiding behind women and children and who knows how many of those were not actually killed by hamas themselves to prop up propaganda. Hamas have no respect for decency, civlization and dignity

Why support the faith of people that hamas and hizboulla belong to when they are calling not to only destroy a nation but their people as well -this charter is a war crime itself- and if the palestinians who supported hamas were aware of the charter and should be equally charged to war crimes
tThis evil, satanic groups have no respect for non muslims and why should I as a non muslim (not jewish) have any sympathy for them or whoever supports these evil people.

where were all the rallies around the world when muslims shot the staues of Bhudda to rubble where were all the muslim protests when muslims were killing and still killing each other, where were all the muslim protests when churches and temples of other faiths destroyed by muslims where were all the muslims when atrocities were besiged by them on non muslims where were all the muslims when their clerics were preaching hate against the non muslims all around the world. Islam is the only religion that promotes hate deciet and violence for as long as it benefits islam they also have a word for this TAQAIYAT.

WHERE WERE ALL THE MUSLIMS ........WHAT HYPOCRACY

IF YOU BELIEVE IN FREEDOM OF SPEECH THEN YOU WILL PUBLISH THIS WITHOUT MODERATION AS NOTHING I HAVE SAID HERE IS FALSE AND YOU KNOw THIS TO BE TRUE. So for the sake of the muslims to see the otherside of the coin they need to know their shortfalls as well. I hope you will publish this ,God Bless

I feel rippled, paralysed and wish to GOD I could do so much more - but all that's left where I am at is blogging and calling trying my best to find out the situation of my friends in Gaza! Fida was so kind and contacted them after a whole day of trying .. and THEY ARE ALIVE!! That was some days ago and now, again .. I am worried SICK! Their youngest daughter is nine years old ...
They are wonderful people, non-political, all they want is a decent life and education for the children - I love them dearly!

What Israel had left for them now is destruction and despair ... what a MONSTER CRIME AGAINST EVERYTHING HUMAN!!!

Friends, think-alikes and I we do what we can to spread the truth ...

BE STRONG .. WE ARE WITH YOU!!!

  • i live in london uk.... i am deeply ashamed of my own and the united states government... and i deeply apologise for thier lack of action on your behalf... it is obscene that the state of israel if given the special treatment it does and is allowed to behave this way towards gaza and all palestinians. i am apalled and deeply distressed by what you are being put through, not just now, but since 1948, by israeli zionism... words fail me and i pray for the end to these current attrocities and for peace in your community... i pray that israel be held to account for its war crimes as well as for its arrogant and callous treatment of human life in gaza

  • dear Mona
congratulation on your blog. It gives the world a true picture of what is going on. You are doing a good job to our brothers and sisters in Gaza.
I wonder Mona have you heard of the famous documentary on Ann Frank, one of the victims of the holocaust, world war II. I believe if you and others of your friends in Gaza document detailed stories of the lives of different children and women who suffered this geneside, with their names and everything, this can be published in books, and films for adults to read in all languages of the world, also can be written in a simple style to be children books that people study at different schools all over the world. I am sure this kind of work should be very successful in portraying the great oppression the palestinan nation are living for decades.
The blood of those innocents should not be lost for nothing.
It is the time the world has to know the truth, and the Palestinian people have to enjoy freedom and security, their rights as a brave nation.

Dear Mona We pary for you and your people. We live far away, but our hearts are in Gaza. May Allah protect you all

By Blogger Unknown, at 1/16/2009 6:06 AM

  • The retribution by Israel for the rocket attacks from Gaza is out of proportion. But why can the Palestinians not recognize the reality of their circumstances and their own role in this tragedy. My neighbour has a large, aggressive dog that barks at the kids on their way home from school. As a consequence some of the kids poke sticks through the fence and tease it. One day the dog will get out and bite one of the children. Now obviously no-one should own a dangerous dog, but if it was my child got bit and was one of the ones doing the teasing and stick poking -- I would have to ask my child "What are you - stupid? You didn't notice the great big flashing teeth? You thought you could tease and poke at it and it wouldn't attempt to do nothing? As I say, what's happening in Gaza is a great tragedy, but it is a tragedy that, given some thought, planning, negotiation and, most importantly, some honesty could have been avoided by the people of Gaza.
It is also very curious to my Western eyes that the trust factor between two Muslim states; Egypt and Gaza seems so very weak.
Good Luck to you but you are going to have to STOP the rocket attacks. Sorry.

I am furious with rage at Israel's actions and although my intention is to pass on sympathy and not to be controversial I cannot help but see their actions as similar to the Nazis that they so (and rightly) despise.
I hope some peace comes to Gaza soon and wish you success in your work.

  • You said:
"11 ambulances were attacked and destroyed while on duty"
    ---
An ambulance is defined as a non-combatant vehicle used EXCLUSIVELY for the evacuation and medical treatment of NON COMBATANTS. The automobiles you cite were NOT AMBULANCES. They were vans, the word Ambulance was on them, and maybe there were even paramedics inside but as soon as you use an ambulance to transport weapons or combatants it's protected status is LOST - it is no longer an ambulance.

Here is video of ambulances used as combat vehicles. http://wingless.aoriginality.com/?p=396

There are also videos of rockets being fired from UN Schools - again, it loses sanctuary status THE SECOND it is used to hide combatants, it becomes a legitimate target when it's used to fire from. Those civilians inside are then considered human shields and are the moral and legal responsibility of those who fired from inside the school (Hamas)...

The reason Arab casualties are high is because this is a weapon of Hamas. If 3rd world countries had bomb shelters 50+ years ago, why are there none in Gaza. israelis put up shelters 60 years ago, this was before any nation funded them. If Hamas can build tunnels for weapons, they can build bomb shelters.

The problem is that they care more about killing Jews than saving their own (how else do you explain the fact that Hamas makes children and the elderly go to rooftops of Hamas buildings to act as human shields?! WHAT KIND OF SKEWED MORALITY ARE YOU OPERATING ON?!)

  • Zionism Has No Stars

    Their flag
    Covered with innocent blood
    Speaks of horror only
No place for them to hide
    With their crimes
    Spread all over Gaza
Speaking of the same old façade.

    With so many killed
    So many injured
    So many displaced
    To prove military superiority
    Over a besieged population
    There can only be shame
    For the Zionist.

    The whole world is watching
    While you bombard
    No mercy on any soul
    You march up and down
    A territory not yours
In a place you don’t belong
You look for your stars finding none.

  • As Salaam wu Alaykum from South Africa to the guardians of Al Aqsa,

Over the last couple of weeks the world has witnessed the worst of crimes against humanity, protests have and are been held throughout the world calling for an immediate cease fire and for Israel to remove themselves from occupied territory and for all border crossings to be opened.

You are constantly in our duaas. May Allah (SWT) grant you victory over the Godless Israeli leadership. Their reckoning will be with Allah(SWT). Your sons and daughters have been honored with martyrdom and may Allah grant them the highest stages in Jannah.

To Hamas and other factions: May Allah (SWT) grant you victory InshaAllah and may you always be there to support the people of Palestine. Like the ANC who were branded as 'Terrorists'are now the ruling party in South Africa. You are and will be victorious.

  • You Palestinians, Hamas supporters are liars and cheats. We all remember the reactions from your "woman" and "children" when our people died in the 9/11 attack. Don't give us all that bs that they are innocent children. These kids that died in Gaza the last few days would be praised if only they committed suicide killing our Jewish children. Don't think, not even for a moment that the Americans and Europeans have such a short term memory..
We can't await your destruction and we pray for you guys to be wiped out of our region any moment...

By Blogger Bee, at 1/23/2009 8:49 AM

  • Dr Mona El-Farra,

I am not completely up to speed on the background to the Palestinian and Israeli conflict and to be honest I don't think you need to be. When you compare the might of the Israeli army against the desperate attempts of a people who to the rest of the world just seem to be struggling to be free there is not much sympathy for the Israeli cause.

I am appalled by the decision by the BBC and Sky news in the UK NOT to show an appeal by the Disaster Emergency Committee in support of humanitarian aid for Gaza. Douglas Alexander MP the International Development Secretary for the UK said it best...

'If your child is sick and suffering it does not matter if your hospital was destroyed by a bomb or an earthquake your child still needs medical attention and that is the very basis of humanitarianism'

This appeal is not about politics, it is not about the small minded individuals on both sides who prefer making silly political points and make quite frankly stupid comments attacking your views because they disagree with your nationality, it is about those children who are dying in the street because someone decided it would be a great idea to blow up their hospital! It is about the mothers who have lost children (on both sides) and it is about saying ENOUGH!!!

Like one of the people who has commented before I am boycotting Israeli goods - although not as part of an organisation - I don't believe in supporting a nation that thinks that blowing up young people is the answer, Israel -like the UK in Northern Ireland did- is creating the next generation of suicide bombers because by removing hope and opportunity you help grow the very sentiments they profess to detest.

I thank you for your refreshing view of a conflict so far away from my own home and I certainly hope that you do not allow your attackers to silence you.

As a wise man once said 'don't let the b*s****s get you down'

Sorry this comment is so long!

By Blogger Rayleen Kelly, at 1/28/2009 11:17 PM

  • I'm appalled but not entirely surprised by these outrageous conditions. Has there been fear of disease spread with the lack of water and medical services, or are people just trying to get from one moment to the next??

Stay strong! I'm thinking of you!

By Blogger Danielle, at 2/08/2009 11:05 PM

  • OKay, I just read this again and now I feel the need to comment again.

    where does help begin?

there's the immediate need for disaster relief and respect for cease fire...

    there's the hope for peace...

but there's so much! I'm overwhelmed by how much is out there to be done. I'm inspired by the work that you do and it's closely along the lines of what I hope to do someday. I just don't even know where to begin. Food security, water, women's rights, transnational legislation, etc etc etc!

As someone in the throws of this crisis... is there a "greatest need" or is it all just too messy to pick one thing?

I'm sorry to bombard you with questions. Please know that I have the highest respect and hope for your efforts!

By Blogger Danielle, at 2/08/2009 11:15 PM

  • I have the news on at least 12 hrs a day, either Sky or BBC, it is such a shame that they forget conflicts so soon. No mention of the plight of the gazans for days!

  • Assalamu'alaikum Dr Mona

I'm Agi from Indonesia. When I watch your country condition from television, studied about why Israel can get the nation in Palestine, studied about why Hamas still launch their rocket, studied about why Israel attacks your country, and I knew too, in 1945 my nation got independence from imperialist, and that was the worst history in our nation but the best things when we won, I knew how Gaza people felt... In past, when our combatants against the imperialist go out from our country, they are called by terrorist or something like that. And I knew how Palestinian felt...

I'm crying seeing your country. And somehow I felt very bad with Israelis. But I know, you are human... I don't know what to say...

I hope someday I can help your country. God bless you and we are praying for you.
