3 am in gaza

it is dark ,sondos is a sleep , i canot go to bed , i have no batteries for my transistor,i donot know where is Hoda , my mobile needs to be recharged , i have no power,iam restless ,anxious ,and helpless too
i love you all , i feel iam not alone , when iam writing to all of you ,and you are far far away

my laptop is gasping too

    Well I suppose that's about all one need read to get a sense of the vermin who often participate here.

    Your despicable remarks are a transparent glimpse into that rotted, blackened ash urn you call a heart. You have no more sense than the heaven-seeking "martyrs" (complete with 72 virgins waiting for them) who blow themselves up at the family dinners of Jews, and expect a positive result as agents of change.

    You mention to Mona that you wish there was something you could do. Well guess what - it turns out that there is. You could apologize for your hateful, racist remarks, and hope that the same restraint which continues to be enacted by a peace-seeking Israel, carries over to the few bloggers who choose to respond to your literary poison. May they find the strength from G-d to recognize that there are many shallow, deceitful, and ignorant people (such as yourslef) in this world, and that strength must come from within.

    Israel continues to show courage and wisdom while the Palestinians attempt to extort and manipulate them en route to their REAL goal -- the complete removal of the Jewish State from the middle east. All the rest of this is window dressing -- and the Arabs and their apologists (that's you, Miikey) know it. I don't know how long it takes for the Palestinians and the rest of the Arab world to realize it. But as long as Palestinians are willing to fight for greater Palestine in place of a Jewish Israel, I can tell you that Israel will fight longer.

    G-d be with you, Mona. Stay safe, and perhaps you will emerge from this ordeal in a position of a closer peace.

    Give the soldier back. Recognize and respect your Israeli neighbors.

Not one Palestinian civilian has been hurt.

  • I'm grateful for Mona's blog - telling us about the situation all Palestinians are having to live in. It is everyone's human right to live free from fear and violence - Palestinian and Israeli alike. We're not going to get any closer to achieving human rights for all by expressing hatred and racism.
    It is difficult to see the Israeli army's action as anything but a collective punishment on an entire people. To say that no Palestinian civilians have been hurt is bizarre - is it not hurting someone to deprive them of power, fresh water, freedom of movement, freedom from fear.
    Mona - I uphold you and your family with love through your struggles. Keep talking to us. It's important that we all realise the reality of violence, not allowing it to be sanitised by mass media.

You can pretend to be all huffy about Miikey's statement, but he said 'these' Jews, not 'all' Jews and sensible, balanced individuals not beholden to some Stone Age idea of their own genetic strain's intrinsic superiority will have seen that at once.

    There are good Jews and bad Jews Colin, like everyone else, including the Arabs. Those engaged in this evil work are bad ones, or at the very least potentially good people caught up in bad situations where they contribute to or commit evil acts, like say American soldiers in Iraq.

    But you do wonder when there is this endless supply of people ready to defend the indefensible in forums like this, for weeks if necessary, just to get the last word in in order to claim 'victory'. It's pathetic and just quietly, very counterproductive in the end. People hate it you know.

    My first thoughts upon awakening in the morning and my last upon going to sleep at night are for Palestine. I have cried a river for you and all those living under this occupation. I fear there is no hope. On Monday after spending hours following this invasion on Palestinian blogs, human rights sites and Islamic news sites, I decided to see how it was being covered here in the U.S. on MSNBC.com news video. I figured I would be angry at the slant. What I found was nothing at all. There had been no news on that site about Gaza for days and days. Just silence. And it is a very loud silence. Today (july 5) the news is about the quazzam rocket fired into Ashkelon and the horror of the people there. Pictures of the blast show dust and a hole in a courtyard about 2 feet deep by 1 foot wide. Israeli leaders call this an escalation and are using it to justify entering more civilian areas in Gaza. The vast majority of Americans know nothing about the 5000 Israeli missiles shot into Gaza during May. The 3 boys shot while playing soccer. The family killed and maimed while eating dinner. And that the power of these Israili missiles is overwhelming, terrifying and very often deadly. They think that somehow this is a war between equals. Not a war against civilians with no weapons. They think Israel is doing what it must to defend itself against terrorism, not that Israel commits acts of terrorism daily and has now for 60 years. And so I cry and pray that somehow, someday justice will prevail. But I don't see how it ever will. My prayers are with you Mona and your family and friends and all other Palestinians. I pray that someday Americans and Israelis will look in the mirror and realize that they have been wrong and that might does not equal right. Hang in there. Love Ann from Virginia U.S.A.

THEN they would HAVE to do what Mandella, King, and Gandhi did: work peacefully for justice and peace, and they would WIN.

    It's been over one week since Hamas kidnapped Shalit and STILL show NO sign of returning him. They WANT Israel to invade and go house-to-house.

It was the third headline story at cnn.com, and the fourth at yahoo.com. It's been headline news on ALL of these sites since Shalit was (illegally) kidnapped by Hamas and their adherents.

    Second, let's deconstruct this pithy rant, then I have to get to work so my taxes can fund the Israel-bashing United Nothing and send 60 billion dollars a year in aid to South Korea and 80 billion to NATO.

    Iran-Iraq war, '80s
    Pakistan rapes Bangladesh, '70s
    Indonesia lay waste to East Timor, '70s
    Pakistan kills 100,000 Hindus in Kashmir, 1990-present
    Algeria kills 100,000 moderates, 1900-present
    Arabs murder two-MILLION in Sudan, 1983-present

    ...okay, so that's millions of murders by Muslim nations. Surely you can find 10 cases of a Muslim soldier being charged, tried, found guilty, and punished by his own nation, right? I'll wait.

    Please know that we shed our tears with you. But, we are praying for peace constantly. As an American Christian, I know that God is not pleased with the Israelis. There are many people in the U.S. who are working diligently, praying, writing letters, protesting, etc. in faith and hope that the world will begin to understand how greatly the "oppressed - Israel, have now become the oppressers."

    We love you! And, we hold you near and dear to our hearts. Please know that there are many in the world who do care and we are working hard each and every day for change!!!

  • People seem either unable or unwilling to grasp the REAL nature of this conflict. Ready for a dose of truth? Ready to hear what very few people (and no Arabs) are willing to say? Here it comes...

    This conflict is not a political one -- it is a RELIGIOUS one !!!

    Sovereign Israel, in whatever form it ultimately takes, will still never realize a full and just peace with the Arabs. It will always be a lighning rod for the wounded pride of countless Arabs who seek a rebirth of their Saladin-era glory, and Pan-Arab aspirations. Is there a blogger who reads Mona's blog (Jew or Muslim alike) who doubts this? Jews being in control of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv is an unacceptable affront to the humility of the Arab people.

    So then ask yourself, if I am the PM of Israel, what steps must I take to ensure the health and prosperity of MY people while advancing an impossible peace process. Giving land back with nothing in return (SEE: Gaza withdrawl) is now proven to simply bring your enemies geographically closer to you. Leaving the Judea and Samaria unilaterally complicates it further.

    So here we are. An Israeli public long since exhausted with an impossible peace among neighbors who seek to destroy it. A Palestinian public who overwhelmingly elects a terrorist cabal sworn to Israel's removal in lieu of an Islamic Holy Land. And a United Nations who, to put it mildly, has neither the wisdom or relevance to help either side. And finally, a Palestinian militancy whose best solution for change management is to extort its neighbor by illegally abducting its soldier, and firing hundreds of rockets into uncontested, soveriegn Israel DAILY.

    As I said earlier, you people baffle me with your twisted logic and revisionist ideaology. It's a simple process:

    1. Give back Shalit. The Gaza offensive would stop that very afternoon.

    2. Recognize Israel's right to exist as a sovereign Jewish State.

    3. Stop all violence. Israel would welcome such a move with an equal stand-down of hostilities. This must also include the incitement which has become the bedrock of your childrens' education.

    4. Build a country and a future. Rebuild Gaza. Work with Israel to take on the bulk of Judea and Samaria after that.

    Jews want peace. Jews deserve peace.

    Palestinians have a right to a just and viable country of their own living side by side with its neighbor Israel. Are they willing or able to receive it?

But first, quick question: More children were killed today by a) Israel or b) Somalia? That's right, the answer is Somalia. But who cares? We live to complain about Israel, not deaths per se nor deaths of children per se.

    ....and the really sad part is that none of you would care if the "Islamists" had killed 2, or 2 dozen, or 2 score, or 2 hundred, or 2 thousand. You just don't care. Your cause celebre is the so-called "plight" of the so-called "palestinians". You have forgotten the horrors of Tibet, Bangladesh, Iran/Iraq, the Taliban's treatment of their own women, the ongoing massacre in Sudan, the 4 million killed in Zaire, the hundreds of thousands of murdered children in Uganda, etc.

    America helps Israel for the same reason that we (and it was OUR initiative ALONE) helped the Muslims of Yugoslavia. Israel needs our help and I am proud of my nation that we give them help and guess what: even if America DID cut off aid to Israel, Israel would continue to exist in defiance of Islam. The only way you're going to get rid of Israel is to nuke it. Go ahead, the Palestinians won't care. They feed their children to the war machine every chance they can get.

    The only way out is my Baja Plan or some variant thereof, but nobody wants to talk about that; presumably because it wouldn't punish DA JOOOOZ enough.

    Back in Golden '93, when the Palestinians accepted Israel's generous offers for peace and self-determination, they THRIVED. Money poured in from all over the world (including Israel I might add) and they built roads, hospitals, sent their kids to college in America (I know because I had Palestinian colleagues) etc. And then Ariel Sharon wanted to visit the Al-aqsa mosque and ALL OF A SUDDEN the PLO et al. had all these HUNDREDS of bombs ready and dozens of martyrs pouring into Israel to murder Jewish civilians... seems the Palestinians weren't using ALL of their welfare handouts to build things and buy food. What a surprise.

    The palestinians are suffering, to be sure, and like most sympathetic human beings, I feel for them and wish an end to their suffering. But the end to their suffering will not come by trying to blame their troubles on Israel and it will not come by encouraging terrorism or dismissing terrorist activity.

    When the Palestinians are really ready for peace, they will lay down arms and receive peace. When they are ready for real war, they will cut Cpl. Shalit's throat and show it on cyberspace. Who wants to bet money on what's going to happen?

    Here's an idea.... why doesn't Israel kidnap a Palestinian and say, "We'll give you Ahmed in exchange for Shalit. Whatever you do to Shalit, we do to Ahmed." Oh, wait, I remember why. It's against the law.

Nor was there any on Sunday, Saturday or Friday. Friday I actually watched the whole MSNBC newshour (1/2 hour) with Brian Williams. Nothing. I wasn't checking other sites. MSNBC.com video is where I get most of my mainstream news since I elect not to have cable. I KNOW there are headlines today. That's because of the Quassam rocket that landed in Ashkelon and the tiny hole it made in a school courtyard. There is no comparison between these attacks. None at all. Stop ranting please and just go to work. It is painfully obvious that you are extremely racist towards Arabs and Muslims in general. Racism is never the answer.     I am a "Jooooo," and I cared DEEPLY about the Bosnian Muslim women who were being herded into rape camps. I worked with a Croatian Muslim woman in the states and we canvassed people for signatures on petitions that we sent to Congress asking them to PLEASE get involved and save these women and girls. I am an RN who was granted permission to take a sabbatical from my job to go to Bosnia and provide medical care, but the medical team that I was to go with called off the trip at the last minute saying that the hospitals there did not feel they could utilize us as staffers. I organized groups to collect needed items, boxed them up, and sent them to Bosnian Muslim women. I gathered in the town square of my city many, many times in public protests.

    Guess who was there with me? Dozens of Muslims and about five Christians and Jews. Where were the LIBERALS??? Where were the human rights groups? They weren't there, because THEY DIDN'T GIVE A RAT'S ASS about Muslims. When I confronted my Leftie friends about their silence, they chided me for "wanting to be the world's policeman" and tried to make me feel ashamed for my compassion. That was the predominant attitude of the Left. The only reason that Leftie Loonie Liberals are shilling for the Palis now is because THEY HATE JEWS and not because they care about Palestinians.

    My heart goes out to the Bosnian Muslims. They were truly a peaceful people who did not deserve the hell that they endured, are still enduring. The Palis are a different animal altogether. I'm sick to death of their murderous ways. They bring it all on themselves and then have the audacity to blame the Israelis and Americans.     I am not racist towards Arabs. Arabs are Caucasians, just like me. I am not racist towards Muslims. Muslims are not any one race. I do not like Islam and the things that SOME Muslims do. I dislike Islam as a whole for the same reason I despise the KKK: they are conservative idiots that hate feminists, hate homosexuals, hate Jews, hate Hindus, hate science, hate uppity women, hate environmentalists, hate animal rights activists, hate atheists, liberals, and secularists, etc. etc. etc.

    I realize that not all Muslims are like this; I majored in a natural science (the hardest one) and I work in the engineering field. One cannot do either without encountering lots of Muslims. I have had a good many Muslim friends; they were all moderate if not outright secular/atheists. This includes Arabs, Persians, Berbers, black Africans, Malaysians, and those from the Indian subcontinent, men and women.

    Actually they did. The Arabs were awarded about 82% of Palestine in 1948. The Arabs still living in Israeli territory gained full citizenship, however 400,000-500,000 left for other countries by choice (ironically about that same amount was forcibly KICKED OUT of neighboring Arab countries with about a day's notice). The Arabs that stayed were not refugees any more than every newcoming Jew was to the land (technically all refugees themselves...ever heard of something call the Holocaust where Jews had to give up their homes?)

    Then every single Arab nation attacked Israel on this day one in 1948 (and the Palestinians Helped). Israel, in this defensive war, won land and gave full citizenship to every Arab inside.

    Lived on the land for centuries? Great whatever - they can keep living there as long as they stop trying to kill Jews lol. They have over 75% of Palestine....the size of Israel is about 1/640th of that of the neighboring Arab world... you'd think that's small enough right? Live in peace or go live in some other Arab nation (oh wait i forgot they don't want you hahaha)

  • I have a simple question for the throng of Palestinian supporters here. Answer this as truthfully as you can...

    Let's just say (hypothetical coming!!) that Israel and the Palestinians work out a deal. Shalit returns home, as do the Hamas lawmakers who were arrested. Hostilities cease. The IDF returns to Israel, and re-openes the border. Humanitarian organizations are encouraged to resume their efforts. And so on, and so on. All is back to the way it was BEFORE this ordeal began.

    Can any of the people who frequent this blog (Arab or Jew) honestly tell us that Hamas and its sister terror organizations would not resume their insidious campaigns? The rockets into sovereign Israeli territory? The incursions? The violence?

    Of course not.

    This "war" is not about a soldier. This isn't even about Gaza. What no Arabs or arab-sympathizers seem to understand, is that this is a fight for Israel's VERY EXISTENCE. Do any of you think Israel is going to have a sense of humor about its territory being violated and it's people threatened? It's been 58 years that the State has been a fact. Yet Hamas and the rest still chant inciteful songs about the Nakba, and the day of liberation for "ALL" of Palestine.

    Israel has withdrawn from Gaza (although I read this morning that this is temporarily no longer true). Everyone on both sides knows that Judea and Samaria are next -- provided that the Palestinians behave as neighbors should. The refugee issue and E. Jerusalem can be negotiated as honest partners for peace. But negotiate with whom??? With Hamas? The governement/terrorist entity sworn to Israeli destruction?

    So I ask you all....

    How do we proceed? Israel has a responsibility to its people to remain a viable Jewish State. So once this is over, and we return to a homeostasis that includes more innocents being killed, and rockets fired into a neighboring country, what must be done to finally achieve a just peace?

    Perhaps this is a question for Mona?

    Since he is under the impression Israel has a right to the land I like to educate him how the “promised people” inquired this land: By GENOCIDE

    Massacre of "Baldat Al-Sheikh" village ( December 3, 1947) On that day the Jewish "Hagannah" gangs broke into "Baldat El-Shiekh" village and killed massacred the 60 unarmed Palestinians who mostly stayed at home

    2- Sa'sa' village massacre on February 15, 1948 The armed Jewish attacked the village and bombed 20 houses with their people.

    3- The "Abu Kbeer" village massacre (March 31, 1948) This massacre was perpetrated by terrorists of Hagannah gang, killing people as they tried to escape from their houses

    4- The "Lydia " (July 11, 1948) This massacre was perpetrated by an Israeli commandos unit led by Moshe Dayan. When the Palestinians tried to take shelter at "Dahmash" mosque, the Israeli attacked them and killed 176 citizens inside the mosque. The number of people killed at that night hit 426.

    5- Massacre of "Albyoon" village (October 29, 1948) The village was attacked by Israeli forces on October 29, 1948. The forces ordered the people to gather in the main square and shot them randomly.

    6- The Massacre of "Al-Bana" and "Dair Al-Asad" villages. Israeli forces besieged the two villages and ordered the citizens through microphones to gather in the plain land in between the two villages. The massacre started with killing the young people "first". As described by a UN observer, "Brutal killing was carried out without the least provocation or indication of fury on the part of unarmed citizens" .

    7- The massacre of "Qalqelya" village (October 10, 1948) A group of Israeli settlers under the protection of Israeli forces attacked the village that lay on the green line between Israel and the West Bank. When the people defied death boldly, Israel used airplanes and heavy artillery to facilitate its attack and perpetrated a massacre where more than 70 were killed.

    That does not even include the famous one Sharon committed in Lebanon.

  • I agree with Karin in one respect -- there have been (and continue to be) brutal thugs on BOTH sides of this. Hamas and its ilk are obvious, but I will also agree that many in the Jewish settler movement are of equal lunacy. They deserve no better than the terrorists.

    But no one is interested in the past (Arab or Jewish). What matters now is what is happening today, and what will happen tomorrow.

    Israel, in something closely resembling the '67 borders will emerge. Or conversely, a viable Palestinian State will emerge from the occupied territories. Karin, are you saying that this isn't enough? What exactly ARE you saying?

  • In 1923, the British divided the "Palestine" portion of the Ottoman Empire into two administrative districts. Jews would be permitted only west of the Jordan river. In effect, the British had "chopped off" 75% of the originally proposed Jewish Palestinian homeland to form an Arab Palestinian nation called Trans-Jordan (meaning "across the Jordan River"). This territory east of the Jordan River was given to Emir Abdullah (from Hejaz, now Saudi Arabia) who was not even an Arab-"Palestinian!" This portion of Palestine was renamed Trans-Jordan. Trans-Jordan and would again be renamed "Jordan" in 1946. In other words, the eastern 3/4 of Palestine would be renamed TWICE, in effect, erasing all connection to the name "Palestine!" However, the bottom line is that the Palestinian Arabs had THEIR "Arab Palestinian" homeland. The remaining 25% of Palestine (now WEST of the Jordan River) was to be the Jewish Palestinian homeland. However, sharing was not part of the Arab psychological makeup then nor now.
    Encouraged and incited by growing Arab nationalism throughout the Middle East, the Arabs of that small remaining Palestinian territory west of the Jordan River launched never-ending murderous attacks upon the Jewish Palestinians in an effort to drive them out. Most terrifying were the Hebron massacres of 1929 and later during the 1936-39 "Arab Revolt." The British at first tried to maintain order but soon (due to the large oil deposits being discovered throughout the Arab Middle East) turned a blind eye. It became painfully clear to the Palestinian Jews that they must fight the Arabs AND drive out the British.The Palestinian Jews were forced to form an organized defense against the Arabs Palestinians.... thus was formed the Hagana, the beginnings of the Israeli Defense Forces [IDF]. There was also a Jewish underground called the Irgun led by Menachem Begin (who later became Prime Minister of Israel). Besides fighting the Arabs, the Irgun was instrumental in driving out the pro-Arab British. Finally in 1947 the British had enough and turned the Palestine matter over to the United Nations.
    The 1947 U.N. Resolution 181 partition plan was to divide the remaining 25% of Palestine into a Jewish Palestinian State and a SECOND Arab Palestinian State (Trans-Jordan being the first) based upon population concentrations. The Jewish Palestinians accepted... the Arab Palestinians rejected. The Arabs still wanted ALL of Palestine... both east AND west of the Jordan River.
    On May 14, 1948 the "Palestinian" Jews finally declared their own State of Israel and became "Israelis." On the next day, seven neighboring Arab armies... Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Yemen... invaded Israel. Most of the Arabs living within the boundaries of the newly declared "ISRAEL" were encouraged to leave by the invading Arab armies to facilitate the slaughter of the Jews and were promised to be given all Jewish property after the victorious Arab armies won the war. The truth is that 70% of the Arab Palestinians who left in 1948 – perhaps 300,000 to 400,000 of them – never saw an Israeli soldier! They did not flee because they feared Jewish thugs, but because of a rational and reasonable calculus: the Jews will be exterminated; we will get out of the way while that messy and dangerous business goes forward, and we will return afterwards to reclaim our homes, and to inherit those nice Jewish properties as well. They guessed wrong; and the Arab Palestinians are still tortured by the residual shame of their flight. Their shame is so great because in their eyes running from Jews was like running from women. So much for the blatant lie about Jews throwing out all the [Palestinian] Arabs!

    The remaining 30% either (1) saw for themselves that these Jews would fight and die for their new nation and decided to pack up and leave or (2) were driven off the land as a normal consequence of war.

    When the 19 month war ended, Israel survived despite a 1% loss of its entire population! Those Arabs who did not flee became today's Israeli-Arab citizens. Those who fled became the seeds of the first wave of "Palestinian Arab refugees."

    The Arab propagandists and apologists almost never mentioned that in 1948, Arab armies launched a war against a one-day-old Israel. Instead he focused on the main consequence of that war: the creation of Arab refugees, stating that Israel "short of genocide" expelled 800,000 of them. This not only disagrees with UN estimates of a bit over 400,000 refugees but also ignores the fact that most of the Arabs/Palestinians were encouraged to leave by the Arab World itself!

  • it's tuff , i know, but i'll tell you this- when i was in the west bank and israel i had the chance to speak with jews and arabs in the area, and the racisism and racists tensions were higher than anythingi've seen in america or east of double roads.

    i ask this question: was anybody killed as result of the israeli air strikes? because israel claims that none was killed from them. it may be scary tobe so close to missle attacks and my heart goes out to you, but at the same time... why aren't any of you in gaza pushing for the release of the captured soldier? israel said thay would withdraw quickly apon his release.

    The Palestinian June 25 raid was its response to continued IDF daily attacks against Gaza throughout June that killed about 30 people, injured many more and caused much destruction of property. Following the incident, the IDF launched "Operation Summer Rain" that included closing all border crossings, sealing off the territory to restrict movement in and out including humanitarian supplies such as food and medicine, and surrounding the territory awaiting orders to launch a major assault which it's now begun. The IDF has also stepped up its artillery shelling that has gone on continually for months. It's been firing 200 - 300 or more shells per day into northern Gaza, many close to civilian homes. It's also launched round the clock air attacks with F16 fighter jets and helicopter gunships firing air-to-surface missiles and dropping one-ton bombs on civilian facilities; it's conducting mock air raids; and it's aircraft are breaking the sound barrier over Gaza at low altitudes deliberately inflicting eardrum shattering and terrifying sonic booms against the helpless people.

    There are many Palestinians who are angry and want revenge. But there are also Palestinians, including people I met in Jerusalem and Gaza, who condemn the killing of Israeli civilians. There are many Israelis who are afraid for their lives and see a military response as the only solution, but there are also those who think differently. One man, whose teenage daughter, Smadar, had been killed in a suicide bombing in September 1997, said to me: "I could have made my grief a tool for hatred, but I decided to make it a platform for change." Ariel Sharon, Yasser Arafat and George Bush must listen to the calls of the victims, and put respect for human rights and humanitarian law at the centre of political negotiations.

    He says the concept of a large international observer force being deployed to keep peace between Israel and the Palestinians is anathema to most Israelis.

  • One other thing beoffre I go, The Two US soldiers beheaded in Iraq, Why were they beheaded?

    The same unit that the soldiers that broke into the 14 year old girls house in the night dressed in black and killed the Family raping her and setting her on fire were from.
    Thats why we know about it because during counseling TWO US SOLDIERS came clean and told about what their fellow soldiers did that night.

    Was that justice from the Family? What would you do if the people who did that to your family were above the LAW?
