I used to work with many palestinians in Beit Jalah, Ramallah and Beit Hanoun back in 1998-2000, we had a lot of good times and enjoyed each others company. Even then my friends there would say that all they want is to carry on working and earning the good salary they received in the building trade, some very skilled workers. I am saddened bythe way Hamas has taken control and made you all suffer in this crazy war because we could all work togethr and create a fanatstic economy. Unfortunately they are too extreme as are some of the right wing lunatic israeli leaders. But you have to admit that Israel is not actively trying to kill innocent civilians and I know many of you believe that.
Why cannot the real palestinian people stop Hamas from fighting in yor streets close to women and children why don't they fight from the wastelands so that inncoent lives are spared. Your lives are as valuable as anyone's, don't they understand this, don't they realise that getting world symapthy by having children killed from israeli fire is not worth even one child's life.
This is not the way to fight a war, I have a very close friend whose daughter was killed in Sderot a few years ago from a qassam and no one wants more bloodshed but Hamas wants all of Israel which is unrealistic. The palestinian people need to stop Hamas from fighting in near their houses and consider talking with israel to be a free state working and living side by side, otherwise this bloodshed will go on forever because neither side will ever wipe out the otherArihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16499327430264507909noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24531546.post-37739692232574034072008-03-05T16:20:00.000+02:002008-03-05T16:20:00.000+02:00Cool.Good post.I like this blog.Cool.Good post.I like this blog.Сумской бомжhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15952342947691108441noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24531546.post-20565902519479842292008-03-05T06:59:00.000+02:002008-03-05T06:59:00.000+02:00Yes Mona, I agree. 60 years of oppression, theft ...Yes Mona, I agree. 60 years of oppression, theft and outrageous acts of brutality could probably drive most people to react violently.

I couldn't see myself reacting in a peaceful manner if a group of governments decided that the U.S. had the right to annex my Canadian home, steal my land and hand it over to illegal settlements, terrorize me into leaving, or brutalizing me if I didn't.fjbhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13120081721262176259noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24531546.post-40184038596987662542008-03-05T01:25:00.000+02:002008-03-05T01:25:00.000+02:00Mona, Thankyou for somehow finding the time to let...Mona,
Thankyou for somehow finding the time to let the rest of the world know what is happening in Gaza. Untill six months ago I knew nothing about Palestine, except that there are problems. I came across Rachel Corrie's play, 'my name is Rachel Corrie,' and began to research the situation in greath depth... it hasn't been easy to get my head around, as lots of sources say different things. For a theatre project I am doing I am exploring these issues in the hope of making more people aware of the atrocities that are going on. The performance is this weekend. My thoughts will be with you and those around you. Sending you much love from Manchester, UK xxxxLouisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14944229400998161310noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24531546.post-36337921325945048352008-03-04T20:10:00.000+02:002008-03-04T20:10:00.000+02:00Yesterday, I listened to a discussion on CNN News ...Yesterday, I listened to a discussion on CNN News that involved an Israeli spokeswoman on one side and an American professor who I think was of Palestinian descent. The Israeli woman was giving the standard Israeli line about how they removed thousands of settlers from Gaza and gave all of Gaza back to the Palestinians. So, she was trying to hold Israel completely blameless. The professor first condemned the Hamas rocket attacks. Then he talked about the roots of the discontent among Palestinians. He pointed out that although Israel has left Gaza, they still control all access to Gaza. So, technically, Israel is still occupying Gaza. He also talked about the 40 year history of Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. He said that in the West Bank fully 40 percent of the occupied territory is off limits to Palestinians. Some of that portion contains Israeli settlements while other parts are Israel's security zone to protect its settlements on Palestinian land. Well, the professor made some very good points! Israel has annexed occupied Palestinian land illegally and in contravention to established international law. As more time passes, Israel continues to build more settlements on Palestinian land.

Ok, so Israel has been behaving in an illegal and immoral manner for the past 40 years of occupation. Well, Palestinians have committed some immoral acts also. I think that most Israelis are very tired of the occupation and would like it to end, but they also want peace and security. I believe that Israel pulled its troops and settlers out of Gaza to see if the Palestinians there were willing to live peacefully next to Israel. Unfortunately for all, this has not happened. Hamas, with its doctrinal aim to destroy Israel seized control of Gaza and began attacking Israel. I do not believe that the leaders of Hamas really care about a positive future for the people of Gaza. If they did, instead of attacking Israel, they would peacefully sit and talk to the Israeli government about mutual cooperation, about expanding economic ties, about building infrastructure, and other positive things. Instead, they waste precious resources in completely destructive activities.

So, it would seem that the Israeli experiment of withdrawing from Gaza has failed. They will not even begin to think about withdrawing from the West Bank now. I am sure that the Israeli government believes that if they withdraw from the West Bank, they will be attacked with rockets from that direction also. That may not be true, as Abbas and Fatah control Gaza, but I think it is still a fear among Israelis. This whole situation seems like a Catch-22. Israel is damned if it does and damned if it doesn't.

I am not taking Israel's side, I am trying to see and understand both sides. Both sides are doing wrong things. I condemn Israel for using overwhelming and deadly military force against civilians. But, I also condemn Hamas for destroying any chances for peaceful negotiations.Davidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01494609521203854111noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24531546.post-77455996694863236522008-03-04T18:43:00.000+02:002008-03-04T18:43:00.000+02:00Salam,From ramallah, hope you all are doing well, ...Salam,

From ramallah, hope you all are doing well, qulubna ma3kum and you are all on our minds. if im allowed to reply to alain, and im sure he/she already knows that israel never "left" gaze, rather sieged gaza, this happened before the wave of kassam rockets and before hamas took over in gaza. havin "all" gaza strip is not sufficient for building a state, or even an decent authority, its only sufficient for managing a prison (which is treated so btw, a prison filled with innocent people, and any action that happens there is treated as a prison break of "terrorists" and "murdorers").

btw, just to see what i mean, please try to notice what isreili media/spokesmen talk about "terrorism", its not the "hamas terrorists terrorism", not "hamas terrorism", not "gaza terrorism" ... its the "palestinian terrorism", a very homogenious population that matches the generic pattern of israils "target".

I do not support hamas, nor do i even like them, but what is israil is doing is apparently _not_ against hamas, and thus, i dont belive it will help people move against hamas ... its becomes simply irrelevent.

this is also somehow irrelevent, but this is a nice blog entry about what the situation is : http://orangesandolives.blogspot.com/2008/02/discourse-analysis.htmlJئـl;;;ïoJlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02521501743469796298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24531546.post-68951977030062754472008-03-04T01:32:00.000+02:002008-03-04T01:32:00.000+02:00I have seen todays photos from Gaza in newspapers....I have seen todays photos from Gaza in newspapers. What so often meant by this here, of course, is to portray Israel's aggression as somehow justified, even though it holds Gaza and all of Palestine prisoner, taking from you in what Israel calls peacetime and then inflicting this harm when you resist by any means. Resistance they prefer to portray as militancy when any act of solidarity, protection, or care can become a target of Israel, its selfishness, its guilt. The self defense of a thief.
I hardly feel equal to the corrupt and vicious, apparatus, keeping this occupation in place, but I do what I can because I know it's nothing to what you endure. It is so strange when it's a people under siege who support the comfortable, the powerful without having earned it, that we need you to tell us the truth.%$#@!http://www.blogger.com/profile/14771558025381679424noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24531546.post-26668683559353640562008-03-03T16:52:00.000+02:002008-03-03T16:52:00.000+02:00I publish a small translation of your blog in my w...I publish a small translation of your blog in my weblog. Why are they firing kassams ???? Instead of negotiating for the rest of the west bank?

They got the all gaza strip to start creat a country and go forward with more negotiations. Why can't they help using violence?

I am very sorry for the civilians in Gaza.
